Alkalising, Vegan, Raw, Gluten Free


Fennel seeds are usually harvested between late summer and autumn, just as the flowers are drying out and turning brown.  This herb is hot in the third degree and dry in the first degree, which helps break down toxic congestion in the body and supports its elimination through the lungs, kidneys and colon.  The seeds are aromatic and carminative, help to remove excess mucous from the lungs (expectorant) and increase the flow of milk in nursing mothers (galactagogue).  In these bars, fennel seeds are combined with low alkalising nuts & seeds and moderately alkalising fruits for a healthy snack option during a naturopathic treatment program.



  • 1 cup raw almonds

  • ⅓ cup chia seeds

  • ⅓ cup linseed meal

  • ⅔ cup sunflower seeds

  • 2 tsp fennel seeds

  • 2 red apples, cored and chopped

  • 1 ⅓ cup raisins

  • 1 lemon, grated zest



Blend the nuts and seeds together in a food processor until the mixture resembles fine crumbs.  Add the apples, raisins and lemon zest and pulse until everything starts to stick together.  Scoop into a lined slice tin and even the mixture out with a spoon.  Refrigerate for at least two hours or overnight and cut into bars.
